Texas Lineman’s Rodeo and BBQ Cookoff

 

Fire Safety and Control Plan for GBRA Nolte Island Park

GBRA Nolte Island Park is a local natural area. TLRA has implemented the following rules for the Rodeo and BBQ Cookoff to ensure a safe weekend for all visitors.

*These rules are approved by the Guadalupe County Fire Marshall and are subject to change AT ANY TIME!!!!  All changes will be emailed to the Team Captain as they are received.

 

NO parking will be allowed around the fence on the north and west side of the BBQ area( see drawing below)

Wood Burning BBQ Pits

  • All fires have to be contained in a firebox, permanently attached to the BBQ pit.
  • No Pellet grills allowed in the BBQ competition or on the Island
  • Absolutely no open fires on the ground.
  • No commercial fire pits, fire rings or any open BBQ pits where the fire cannot be totally enclosed.
  • Fire screens and grates will not be considered as an enclosure for the pit.
  • At least two (2) - 5# fire extinguishers or (1)- 2.5 gallon water extinguisher will be within 15 feet of each BBQ pit location.
  • Any unattended fires, even in a fire box are subject to be extinguished by the TLRA committee.
  • All fires will be thoroughly extinguished before any trailer pit leaves the Island.
  • No ashes or coals left on the Island.
  • No BBQ pits can be moved around the Island while a fire is burning in the firebox or belly of the pit.
  • Coals or Embers cannot be moved or relocated from the fire box to belly boxes on the BBQ pit(s) without at least Two Team members present and a fire extinguisher in hand.
  • Each BBQ pit will be required to have a piece of non-ignitable material (Concrete Blocks, Hardi-Plank, Tin, etc.) on the ground, under the fire box if the bottom of the firebox is less than 18” off of the ground. The material must meet the dimensions of the attached example drawings. Rubber blankets are not acceptable!
  • Locate the water faucets near the BBQ area in case of emergency
  • Absolutely No Fires will be allowed outside of the BBQ Area.
  • All pits are required to have a container or continers to catch all drippings from the pit

Propane Cookers

  • Propane cookers/grills are not allowed for use with competition meats.
  • Propane cookers can only be used with all shields and guards in place.
  • Propane burners must be at least 18” above the ground.
  • Propane bottles must have quick and easy access to shut off in an emergency.
  • Each propane cooker will have at least one (1) – 5# fire extinguisher within 15 feet.
  • At least one person shall attend to the cooker at all times when a flame is present.
  • Any cooker that has burners less than 18” above the ground must sit on a piece of non-ignitable material (Concrete Blocks, Hardi-Plank, Tin, etc.). The material must meet the dimensions of the attached example drawings. Rubber blankets are not acceptable!
  • Locate the water faucets near the BBQ area in case of emergency
  • Absolutely No Fires will be allowed outside of the BBQ Area.

A copy of these requirements are available on the TLRA website and must be signed upon registration and before entering the BBQ area.  The Team captain is responsible to make sure their Team is educated and abides these rules.

 

Any Team not following the safety rules may result in disqualification from the Cook-off.

 

I have read and understand the TLRA fire safety plan and control plan and my Team will abide by the rules as set forth by the TLRA while we are on GBRA Nolte Island Park.
